Supporting sporting excellence in the Pacific
PacificAus Sports creates new opportunities for athletes, coaches and administrators to train, play and grow together. Through collaborative and ambitious partnerships, the program is driving success for the Pacific sports community, unlocking the potential of a new generation of sporting champions.
Shared history, shared heroes
Australia and the Pacific have a deep and long-standing relationship. Geography made us neighbours, but it is sport that brings our people together. We have watched and cheered our shared sporting heroes, celebrated each other’s success and commiserated our losses together. Our hearts beat as one, drawing strength from our sporting memories, competition, and rivalry.
Opportunity, investment and access
Across rugby league, rugby union, netball, football, AFL, cricket and Olympic/Paralympic sports, PacificAus Sports is making it possible for Pacific and Australian athletes to train and play together at the highest level. PacificAus Sports provides Pacific teams with increased access to Australian competitions, talented young Pacific athletes with access to high-performance coaching, and players from across the region with more exposure to international training and match experience.
The program also invests in the development of sports professionals across the region, supporting access to best-practice education and training for coaches, administrators and support staff.
Championing our women and girls
Providing opportunities for Pacific women and girls to take their place as champions in our regional sports community is a priority for PacificAus Sports.
We have already seen many Pacific women and girls succeed in sport both at home and in international competition. PacificAus Sports will build on those successes by increasing regular access to world-class coaching and mentoring, and exposing them to even more elite-level competition.
The program also develops female sports coaches, administrators and support staff across the region. With Pacific and Australian sports organisations working together, we are establishing the Pacific as the global home of women’s sporting excellence, on and off the field.
